Managing an office as complex as the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office requires someone who has a demonstrated history of excellence in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: leadership, management, vision, academics, budgeting and business essentials, accessibility to the public, innovation, the ability to relate to and communicate with people and of course service to our community. It is my belief that the best predictor of future performance is past performance so we must choose our Sheriff based not solely on promises or a vision for the future, but also on their past performance in the critical areas mentioned above. The Office of Sheriff is far too important to elect someone who does not possess a background of having progressive positions of responsibility and who has not had the opportunity to lead men and women in the law enforcement community. I want to continue to serve as your Sheriff because I believe that my background clearly demonstrates that I have excelled in the critical areas mentioned above and that I have continuously sought and received positions of greater responsibility and that I have discharged my responsibilities ethically and with vigor. I believe that our Sheriff should be elected based on many things but primarily on his or her abilities as demonstrated by experience and credentials. By reviewing my background on this website a feel certain it will demonstrate to you my lifetime commitment to excellence in public service through working in law enforcement at every conceivable level, by excelling in academia and through many years of exemplary military service. I want to continue to serve as your Sheriff because I truly believe that an objective analysis of my experience and credentials clearly demonstrates that I am highly qualified to be responsible for the safety of our citizens as your Sheriff. I want to continue to serve as your Sheriff because I believe I have demonstrated passion for my profession and for St. Johns County. Being your Sheriff for the past four years has given me the opportunity to lead men and women in the delivery of outstanding law enforcement services to a larger population than I did when I previously served as your Chief of Police in St. Augustine. Many of the programs I discussed and proposed during the 2004 election cycle have been implemented and have been a tremendous benefit to our citizens. Aside from credentials, I believe that our Sheriff should possess certain attributes in order to successfully serve our citizens. I believe that our Sheriff should be fair, honest in thought and deed, compassionate, empathetic and understanding. I want to continue to serve as your Sheriff because I believe that my past performance demonstrates that I possess these attributes and that they will serve our community well in the future. Finally, I want to continue to serve as your Sheriff because I know and my past performance demonstrates, that I will dedicate 110% of the time and energy that is needed to successfully manage the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
